Wilsonville shows off high marks at Dean Nice Invitational

Wilsonville High School senior Catherine Street set a new school record at 11 feet, 6 inches at the Dean Nice Invitational at Gresham High School on Friday. 

The Wilsonville track and field teams compiled several top-10 finishes at the Dean Nice Invitational at Gresham High School on Friday.

The Wilsonville boys finished tied for fifth with Bend out of 13 teams with 42 points, and the Wilsonville girls were fourth with 34 points. West Salem took the boys meet title with 68, and Gresham won the girls meet title with 132.

The highlight for the Wildcats came in the pole vault where senior Catherine Street took first place with a personal best and new school record of 11 feet, 6 inches. On the boys side, Matt Buck set a school record for freshman boys, vaulting 10-0.

Other victories for Wilsonville came from senior Jesse Staub, who continues his march toward state, taking first in the javelin at 192-4 and Gray Hubel in the 5,000 with a time of 16:43.07.

On the boys side, other top finishes were by senior Sean MacKelvie, who took third in the javelin (176-9), sixth in the 110 high hurdles (16.21), and eighth in the high jump (5-10) and triple jump (41-3); Ben Wiedensmith was second in the 800 (2:00.4), Aaron Koford was seventh in the 200 (24.01) and eighth in the discus (141-1), Collin Petersen was sixth in the 800 (2:01.8), Andrew Booth was sixth in the 3,000 (9:27.13), Eric Shibley was fourth in the 5,000 (17:18.6), Chris Walsh was seventh in the 5,000, Taylor Bullock was sixth in the 300 hurdles (42.41) and Staub was third in the discus (167-5).

On the girls side, junior Kelsey Starr was second in the 100 (13.08) and the 200 (26.32), Tessa Scott was fourth in the 1,500 (5:05.61) and eighth in the 800 (2:30.32), Kristine Olson was 10th in the 3,000 (11:53.11), Kristen Chester was second in the 5,000 (20:31.3) and Laura Hanson took ninth in the javelin (98-2).

This week, Wilsonville hosts Sherwood on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
