Eli St. John of Wilsonville ran to first place in the 0-19 age division at the Helvetia Half Marathon earlier this month. St. John, an eighth grader at Wood Middle School, ran the 13-mile course in 1:47:48 and finished nearly eight minutes ahead of all his age group competitors.

Eli St. John, 12, of Wilsonville finished first place in the 0-19 age division at the Helvetia Half-Marathon on June 10.
As the youngest competitor in his division, St. John ran a time of 1:47:48 to finish first place. His 8:13 mile pace helped him win his division by almost eight minutes.
Amongst all runners, his time was 244th overall out of 2,163 competitors.
It was St. John’s first half-marathon race. But despite winning his age group at the half-marathon, the Helvetia was merely part of the training process for St. John. He and his mother, Roanna Lagreide, will run in the Portland Marathon this fall.
They’ve trained with the Portland Fit running group every Saturday to prepare for their races.
St. John will be an eighth grader at Wood Middle School next fall.
